As we head into Halloween weekend and the end of Daylight Saving Time, the Ä¢¹½tv Office of Emergency Management wants to remind all students, faculty, and staff to stay safe, stay alert, and be prepared!
👻 Halloween Safety Tips
-
Stay with friends. Travel in groups when attending events or walking at night.
-
Plan your route. Stick to well-lit, familiar areas and use campus sidewalks or paths.
-
Keep your phone charged. Make sure you can contact friends or emergency services if needed.
-
Be aware of your surroundings. Avoid distractions like texting while walking or crossing streets.
-
If you see something, say something. Report suspicious activity to University Police at 724-357-2141.
-
Know your limits. If you choose to attend parties or gatherings, make safe decisions and look out for your friends.
- Secure your residence. Lock doors and windows when leaving your dorm or apartment.
⏰ Daylight Saving Time Ends Sunday, November 2, at 2:00 a.m.
Don’t forget to set your clocks back one hour before going to bed Saturday night!
This is also a perfect time to review your emergency preparedness at home and on campus:
-
Test smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. Replace batteries if needed.
-
Check flashlights and emergency lights. Replace batteries or bulbs.
-
Review your emergency plan. Make sure everyone in your residence hall, apartment, or house knows where to go and who to contact in an emergency.
-
Update your emergency contacts in MyÄ¢¹½tv and your phone.
-
Check your emergency kit. Include water, nonperishable food, a first-aid kit, and any necessary medications.
-
Prepare for shorter days. Carry a flashlight or wear reflective clothing when walking or biking after dark.
Staying aware and prepared helps keep our entire campus community safe.
